Restrictions on Chinese land purchases are expanding rapidly in the U.S.
Bills to restrict land purchases by non-Americans have been submitted to state legislatures in 35 of the 50 states and have already been passed in 10 states.
The trigger was the revelation that Chinese companies were moving into areas near U.S. military bases.
However, the Asahi newspaper said, "This will undermine the open-minded national character that has been one of the strengths of the U.S. and lead to discrimination."
